Cyclocross Bike

Ok, so looking to get a cyclocross bike to save my road bike on the harsh roads when i'm commuting to uni.

Kinda narrowed it down to either the boardman cx pro or giant tcx 1...any opinions? I'm open to other suggestions for around that price (£1000)

    But are your roads really worse than the roads that they hold Paris Roubaix on ?

    They use road bikes for that ? Are your clearances too tight to get wider tyres on ?
