I am currently in the process of a new build and have been looking at the option of putting some SRAM X0 gripshift on the bars instead of my X9 shifters.

Im not after saving weight or anything, I just read some good reviews and the fact that a lot of people seem to prefer them over normal shifters, I know it will be a personal preference thing. I also like the clean look they give to the cockpit.

Does anyone on here use them? Any pro's or con's?

When it comes to grips I take it you have to get some 3/4 length grip? When you are riding your hand is covering the grip part on the grip shift and the added grip?

I take it that if i wanted to use an existing lock on grip, all I have to do is cut it to size rather than have to use a full lock on grip, then the grip shift unit?

Hope all this makes sense

I like them, they're a very positive shift, tolerant of crappy cables, light etc.

Only downsides I'd say are that they can be slippery if muddy and wearing gloves. Only proper Mayhem-esque mud though. I also found I got a blister on my thumb knuckle the first time I wore short finger gloves each year, once it healed I'd be fine for the rest of the year, suspect it's down to how I hold the bars more than anything!

I used to use one Grip cut in half, and always found that about the right amount. Bontrager Race X Lites are a good light option if you don't want lock-ons, they're the same diameter as the shifter.

Cheers for the input, I never thought of the grip being a different diameter to the shift grip, I would prefer lock on's.

I had wondered about blisters too with the shape of the rubber shifter grip.

    Hmmm, decisions decisions!

I use X9's - they're awesome when used with Propalm 3/4 grips which are a full lock on design. Check them out here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PROPALM-LOCK-grip ... 465wt_1170

Go for it-you won't look back! I changed to gripshift X0 from X9 triggers on my xc race bike.

Shifting is much faster, you can shift loads of gears either up or down pretty much instantly and you don't get any mis-shifts like on the triggers-i find the upshift trigger way too sensitive.

As for how they feel on the trail-you don't even notice the bulkier twist part. They feel really natural with any cut down grip. Highly recommended!

last 10 years with triggers, took a sidestep to X9 gripshifts on new bike and was very impressed, now triggers seem awfull in coomparison.

    Lighter
    Cheaper
    Neater on the bars
Can shift from top to bottom gear in one sweeping shift.
No more sore thumb knuckles from triggers catching

Not had a problem with the grip wearing gloves. I pair them with 'ESI chunky' grips fitted and cut to size, but 3/4 lock-ons would be fine, or if you have super wide bars you could have the full grip!

It hasnt taken much to sway me!

I have just bought a set of X0 grip shifts from CRC. I have a set of white peaty lock on's that I want to keep hold of so will probably cut them down to about 90mm and have the lock on the end of the bar rather than next to the shifter.

I think people still tend to associate grip shif with the cheap Halfrauds bikes.
