Bookings are now open for the New Forest Rattler, which will be setting out from Moyles Court School on Sunday 21 August 2011. The Rattler is now a firm fixture in the UK sportive calendar and has received glowing reviews from the participants and our friends at cyclosport.org. (see: http://www.cyclosport.org/article.aspx?id=1574)

In addition to the Rattler we are very excited to announce that bookings are also now open for a new addition to the sportive calendar, the Meon Valley Riser, which will be setting out from Boundary Oak School near Fareham on Sunday 3 April 2011. We have lined up two excellent routes for you that are 50 miles and 85 miles in length, and as per the Rattler, we have spent countless hours cycling and driving around the Meon Valley to ensure that we bring you the best possible routes.

The Riser takes in some excellent climbs including an un-named new monster climb that we discovered when route-finding. It's made up of single-track road that goes up and up and just when you think you're at the top, you turn a corner and it kicks up again. Just for a bit of fun we're going to leave it to you to name once you've tackled it in April!

We have also taken on-board the feedback that we received from participants of the 2010 Rattler, and are pleased to announce that there will be a beer tent at both the Riser and the Rattler in 2011 selling two types of Ringwood Ale - just what you need after a long ride! Other facilities available at the events will include a sports massage tent and mechanical assistance.

Lastly, we'll also be running the first '100 metre challenge' at the Riser HQ in April. This is how it works: We'll mark out a 100 metre stretch of tarmac - you'll start at one end on you're bike, and see how quickly you can get to the other end. The overall winner will receive free entry to the 2011 New Forest Rattler, a free pint of Ringwood Ale, and a cycling goody bag. There will also be smaller prizes for 2nd and 3rd position.

15% of the profit made from both events will go to our chosen charity, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Cystic Fibrosis is the UK's most common life-threatening inherited disease and the Trust is the UK's only national charity dedicated to all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis.

  • Renster... I notice you make a comment that you are using JMH Solutions for 2011, does that mean you are going to be using timing chips at both the events ?

Perhaps a good idea to update the site before promoting it as the event is listed on the linked site for 23rd August 2009!

mgcycleguy - sorry for the late reply, been totally wiped out with illness for what seems like forever. Yes, we are using chips at both events.

Toonraid - good point - all up to date now.

Really excited about the new Riser route. There's a google fly through on the site now and a full profile via map my ride. Check it out: www.meonvalleyriser.co.uk
