Who makes a wide/big volume CX tyre?

Hi - want to get the widest tyre I can for my CX bike - have touring tyres on it now (Schwable 32 mms) but want to take it off-road on the local MTB trails and would like the biggest air volume I can find.
My thinking is that CX bikes are long-legged cousins of a rigid 29er so if i get the right big volume tyres I can get part of the way there without having a 7th bike in the house!
What are people's experiences with Vittoria XG/XMs, Conti Speed King (35s), Michelin or any other tyres out there.
Big size is the principle, cheers!
PS Of course if anyone has made a narrow 29er tyre work on their CX bike I'd be keen to hear about your success with that.

When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.

CX bikes vary in their tyre clearance. You have to figure out what works on your model.
Mud, esp stick, clay-rich varieties require more clearance than sandy/gravel style surfaces.
You should be able to ride any MTB trail on 32mm rubber, albeit at a slower pace. Just think of it as upping the technical difficulty of a trail.0 -
Dont you need to get the widest tyre for your rim ? Not all tyres will fit all rims ?0

Thanks, I'm not too worried about the clearance, I'll buy first, fit later and ultimately return the tyre if i have to, I'm not concerned about that.
I've seen at least one 35mm out there which is the Panaracer Cindercross - but I've heard that one mans' 32mm is another's 35mm...it's not nearly as uniform as 23mm racing tyres. When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -
why not buy some 29r 2.1" or 2.3" tyres. They'll fit your rims it's just a case of whether they'll fit through your frame.
Personally i'd look at the scwalbe tyres, they're generally pretty much on the nose size wise.0 -

The biggest factor will be your frame clearance - 29er tyres go up beyond 50mm - the terminology is 'monster cross' ie CX bike with 29er wheels. Schwalble Landcruisers are praised by Three Peaks riders for their durability. I run some Schwalbe Racing Ralphs in 35mm on my CX - the big problem with cross tyres is that they're designed for suppleness and grip in soft conditions which makes them less suited to serious off-road excursions.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
