He was hoping to make it to July. Interviews in Procycling and Cycle Sport this month with him and his love for the bike is so apparent. He tells it like it is as regards training.

    A very sad loss indeed.

He was a peer of Conconi, Cecchini and Ferrari. The path he chose to follow was the right one, and his moral courage for pursuing it was hugely admirable.

    RIP.

Sad loss indeed - I hope it is some small comfort to his friends and family that his name is so respected amongst cycling fans.

It's very sad to lose someone with such an obvious passion for cycling. RIP

Big loss to the sport. Just hope Ricco and the other reformed dopers under his tutelage can continue to do things the right way in his memory.

I read the CS interview and it appears that even when it was conducted he had resigned himself to his fate, so the short timescale isn't really a surprise.

As others have said, the sport desperately needs more people like him. I wonder if anyone else involved with Mapei can pick up where he left off?
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.
