It seems to be the done thing now to take up another sport when you retire from riding

Although, it's probably not going to be very long until Oscar is nabbed anyway.
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

This brings up an interesting question (or at least some off season silliness)

Who would be in a Pro Cycling Football team.

The goalkeeper's easy - Greg van Avermaert

Luis Leon Sanchez must have some natural talent, so he can play in midfield

    Who else?

Maybe Bernard Hinault in defence - he has an uncompromising approach to strikers.

    Lance on the left wing.

Wiggins left back (in the chase group).

Danielson on the bench as he's a great prospect.

As they can choose their numbers now im guessing Lance would take 28, cant think what number Valverde would be avoiding? Actually maybe Lance is more likely to select 7 (number of tdf wins) and then try to change just before kick-off resulting in a yellow card before the match has started.

Who would the physio be? I cant think of anyone in cycling who might have treated footballers?

Roger de Vlaeminck was supposed to have been a fairly promising amateur player.

Was one of the Scandanavian riders from the 80s / 90s a footballer before turning to cycling?

Axel Merckx was on Anderlecht's books as a youngster, but chose to pursue a cycling career instead.

His dad was probably better though.
  • Magnus Backstedt should partner Hinault in defence, that combination could stop anything
  • I can see Cavendish playing the pacey right winger with alot of trickery.

Roger Hammond would be good as a workhorse central midfielder....

One thing is for sure - cyclist wouldn't wear snoods!

Im thinking he'd more likely be there for the tap-ins after everyone else had set him up with Renshaw drawing the final defender away. Then again, with his dancing background maybe you're right, his fancy footwork would make him a tricky winger.

Rujano as a ball-boy? Taylor Phinney as the mascot? I can see Frank Schleck and Soler getting into trouble for alleged diving.

Jens Voigt alongside Bernard Hinault at central defence.
