We need a serious garage clearout shortly, just wondered if anyone can suggest where to donate 2 old and tatty Halfords specials and 4 various kids' bikes please?

Presumably there are charities who specialise in this, I don't want/can't expect anything for them, but with a bit of fettling will be decent enough as runarounds, thanks

Dont know for your area, but around here there are several bike charities ... funded by county council or were whose remit is to promote cycling to a wider population base and resell donated bikes at a low cost to get that cycling message across.

Have you tried the freecycle service? You'll need a yahoo e-mail account, but people usually snap things up pretty quickly on there.

I've had real difficulty getting rid of old bikes - even on Freecycle. People would ask for them, we would stay in, and they wouldn't turn up.

The last two children's bikes we needed rid of we put on ebay. We got 99p for one of them and £24 for the other!

Thanks everyone, that looks just the ticket though DM - can't be bothered selling them and can do my bit for Cheridee as I'm feeling generous (must be the time of year?!)

Sorted with these people, bit cheeky asking for a donation to cover diesel when I'm donating 6 bikes and a frame, but fair enough I suppose; it will help to salve my overly materialistic conscience from excessive festive gift buying

all ours went to an alladin's cave run by the local council and managed by a mate of mine. I got shown round the warehouse and it was incredible. The bikes are refurbished by people with learning difficulties and sold or donated to families in need. it was a humbling experience.

Sadly, they are now in line for closure because of the knock on effect of the bankers' theft of our money. A real shame.

Scandallous, but at least we all know that one part of society is OK; Tarquin and his City Boy pals now that bonuses have been reinstated - hoorah!
