The shocker here is the £1300 fine and two points. Another "driving is a right, not a privilage" judgement.

Heaven forbid that a professional driver should lose their licence, even if it does mean holding them to a lower standard of driving. She lost her leg. Doesn't seem possible to win, to be honest.

I hope she will be financially secure, but in the UK your leg is only worth £100k or so. Much less than the cost of libeling a celebrity, for example.

I went back last night and read the thread on this incident on LFGSS, I recommend you all to read or reread it. (Sorry I can't provide a link as LFGSS is blocked here at work). There are some moving posts by the victim's partner and some remarkably balanced comments about the driver.

I'd missed this until now so thanks for reposting. Truly awful story and reading through the thread was hard work but I am glad I did.

Fingers crossed the civil proceedings go well - I realise this is a pretty naive view but I wonder how the insurance company's representatives would feel if they actually met the victim rather than just treating them as a number on a piece of paper...

    Every bit of this.

Anyone know what the insurance companies reasoning for the 80:20 split was?
