Hi

Budget is circa £100 and I've narrowed it down to 3

Prob between the Northwaves and the Shimano's really.
Anyone using either ?
Are the Shimano's very narrow ?
And are the Northwave's big fitting ?

Thanks

  • Not sure about the others but I do know that Shimano are small fitting. You should choose a size above what you usually are.

I'm a UK size 8 which equated to a 42 European, HOWEVER, my Shimano shoes are a size 43.

thats a bit of a generalisation.... as Im a UK 8 and Shimano 42, but tbh, i may have smallish 8's as all my shimano shoes (3 pairs - R220, R180 and a MTB SPD pair) are at the tightest setting on the rachet.... i will prob try and find a narrower shoe manufacturer next time..

the best bet, whatever shoe you get, is to try them on to make sure the fit is good.

Try them all on then decide for yourself.

    Lake are also small fitting

I've not got any of these particular shoes but I have shoes from these manufacturers

The Northwave shoes I had ( winter boots ) did what they were supposed to but broke after a couple of winters use. Won't get Noethwave stuff again.

Shimano shoes ( touring shoes ) I didn't like that much but were my only cycling shoes for a long while so I did many miles in them. They are certainly durable. I have recently got some other Shimano shoes, they seem good too.

Lake shoes ( MX155 MTB shoes ) just oozed quality but the sizing was so small I had to return them without wearing them on the bike. I tried shops all over the world and the UK distributor but couldn't find a pair in my size. Would consider Lake again.

I have two pairs of Specialized shoes, so I suppose they are my favourites

All mailorder unfortunately so can't try them on.
May have to bite the bullet and order the Northwaves and Shimano and hope 1 fits as sending 2 pairs back is starting to negate savings I'm making by buying online.

    Thanks

Go into a shop and try some shoes on from the 3 manufacturers (and the same/similar shoes if possible) and then buy online.
