edited December 2010 in Road buying advice
Just thinking about some new wheels for the new season, are the Carbone's any good and what will the benefits be on my Cayo Team Replica 2010. Thanks everyone for your time, I'm a bit of a newby to the road lark.

Good solid wheels in my experience. Can train with them all year round if you want. Not the lightest, but decent value for money if you get them cheap enough. Won't help your climbing, but should give you a small speed boost on the flats.

    And they look OK too.

    Good -

I'm happy with my used ones then!

Why not look at the Reynolds Assault. All the Aero advantage and lightweight.

On the for sale here - so obviously curious as to what you thought was a decent deal.

Mine only have about 400 miles on them so should be in good nick - I'll pm you for your opinion. New to aero wheels so any advice appreciated!

I think those wheels used to be mine! Great wheels.

    PM me for more.

looked at Reynolds but thought extra expense with pads required
  • They are not the lightest wheel out there but you can worry too much about that. If you're talking a few hundered grams, rotational or otherwise, then good luck on telling the difference - placebo effect apart. I'm buggered if I can tell the difference in weight between my Carbone SL's and Ksyrium SL's, while riding, but I can hold slightly higher speeds on the Carbones.

And the Carbones do look nice and they make a very nice noise - and these things are important :D
It doesn't get any easier, but I don't appear to be getting any faster.

Recently picked a barely used set up myself for under £600 including courier. If they go anywhere near as good as they look I'll be very happy.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

I got a set of Carbone SLRs (the ones with the carbon spokes) - they definitely hold the speed and top speed is increased too! Clubmates all comment on the noise they make - shame I can't hear it

I got some new ones from jedi sports in Germany for 700€ (£600ish). That was the price for clearing 2010 ones, but they sent me the 2011 so that was a bonus. Only the stickers are different but it'll help if I end up selling them on.

    They're 800€ now though :(

They come with pads. But you still have the faff of swapping them and the issues of poor braking in the wet.
