Looking to purchase road bike in 2011, I currently have Cannondale MTB road converted.

I have been looking at Spesh Secteur or CAAD8 (Sora or Tiagra)?

Any thoughts?

Carbon or Aluminium? CAAD will be dependable as it seems to be each year. Supersix 105 maybe?

Is advantage of Tiagra just down to gear shitfing and worth the extra money?

And whats the difference between CAAD range and Synapse if aluminium?

    Thanks

Tiagra is worth the extra money over Sora - Sora has a thumb shift whereas Tiagra has both up and down changes on the STIs.

Synapse is a more relaxed, sportive geometry version than the CAAD range which is slightly more aggressive and racy.

Cannondale wth Tiagra, quality of build on the frame is in a different league - just look at the welds and you'll see what I mean.

Good chance you'll get a barely used second hand one at a good price, loads of folk buy this sort of thing with good intentions but never get at around to using them!

    Thanks for the advice
  • Those two bikes have very different geometry - best to try each for fit.

The Secteur is very high at the front which gives a more upright riding position - good for commuting but less efficient for longer ride & higher speeds.

Both the CAAD8 and Synapse have more traditional (lower at the front) road bike geometry.

    +1
So difficult to compare these two bikes, its like comparing a Mondeo and a Lotus, both excellent at what they are designed to do but with opposite focus.
