as a cycle shop owner i can reveal that if i sell a £2k mtb i will make at least £1500 pure profit.
So you're making more than the bike manufacturers, how does that work :?:
Maybe a hint of sarcasm there mate

    Spesh Enduro SL expert 2008-£1999.99
    Spesh Enduro expert 2010/2011-£3199.99

    Shit happens.
  • On another thread/forum a guy is talking about how he was told by his LBS that the full susser market is virtually (or near to) dead at the moment (reason given that this particular store had mainly hardtails in stock) and that the trend right now is for the hardtail for British riding

Hardly surprising people are opting for Hardtails (if what they bike owner said is true for his area?) is it given the price hikes?

    shoot happens.

    That's quite a difference!

Any difference in the spec though? My Stumpy fsr comp 2009 was list price of £1600, the 2010 £1,799.99 and the 2011 £1,999.99 BUT the fork on mine was fox float 120mm, the fork on the 2010 was 130mm float while the 2011 had a 140mm RS Rev, perhaps justifying the price hike in this case?

    I'll add to that
    2008 Enduro SL Expert 2008 : £2000
2009 Enduro SL Expert 2009 : £2500 - same spec as above 2008 model save for a Fox 32 150mm over the Spesh E150 fork.

    2010 Enduro Expert £3000
2011 Enduro Expert £3400 - slightly better spec over 2010 and I guess the extra 2.5% VAT adds more onto the 2011 model as well.

Anyway my point - a £1400 increase over 3 years for essentially the same bike, that's very nearly £500 per year !!
I can see why the high end bikes have increased, the S-Works models with XX Kit fitted, but the above is slightly OTT.

Spesh did sell very low in 2008, and trumped all the others in the value stakes from a 'big brand'. I think it was a move to get good reviews in the mags, get the name out there and get people buying.

They can only charge what the market will allow, YOU are that market
    +1.
If you pay for the bike what they ask for it, the price is right. If they can sell it for that price to somebody else than you, the price is right as well. If not, they'll have to knock something off. If nobody wants to sell you a bike for what you think is a reasonable price they you're a cheapskate and you'll have to walk.
