Changing from Triple to Compact

On my current bike I was thinking of changing from a Stronglight triple chainset with square taper BB to a compact.

Looking at a budget chainset, and considered the SRAM Apex from Ribble at £57.

It doesn't come with a BB so wondered if this was the right one to buy?

Now the tricky bit :?
My current bike has Campagnolo Xenon shifters with Race mechs front and rear. Would this chainset combo work ok or will that only work with Shimano/SRAM drivetrain?

Any other suggestions of chainsets appreciated as I don't have much experience on what mix'n'match work but figured the shifters will work with triple or compact especially as the cassette and mechs are Campag and all 9spd. The chainset is 10spd but have seen on various posts that this shouldn't be a problem however not sure if Campag and Shimano/SRAM chains are different :?:

TIA guys :)

kinlay these two are not compatable because the bottom bracket is the equivalent of Shimanos Hollowtech with in my terms the spindle.which means that the chain wheel comes complete.

I am sure that if you contact Ribble they will tell you what the correct BB is. Hope that helps and I am also sure wiser heads than mine will be along shortly.

I think this may be the one you need but you need to determine whether you need one with an Italian or English thread as well.

I have to disagree with Hondated, I don't see why the BB won't fit, unless i'm mistaken it's a GXP crankset with a GXP bb :S at least it says GXP on the crankarms

    http://www.sram.com/sram/road/products/ ... x-crankset

    "Technology GXP BB, PowerGlide™ Chainrings"

I was under the impression all GXP stuff works across the GXP range (so even if you had a road crankset, you could use a MTB GXP BB...)

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :/

    cheers guys,

yeah I can't see why i would need a Campag BB but I'll double check with Ribble before buying just to ensure the that SRAM BB goes with that chainset.

More of a concern is if this chainset will work with the rest of the campag drivetrain?

    Anyone know?

    TIA

  • I don't believe a SRAM chainset is compatible with Campag but don't quote me on that.
  • Can`t see why not.
Mechs and shifters are not compatible becuase of different indexing but can`t see why the chainset shouldn`t work.
I have a Shimano chainset running with a Campag mech and SRAM chain on one f my bikes!.

Hi there, I run a Truvativ elite compact chainset with everything else campag 10 speed without any problems at all. The Truvativ is made by Sram, and it uses GXP, so I don't see why you would have any problems at all.
    Hope this helps.
