Following this mornings SMIDBL (bike mangled but I'm OK) I'm now on the lookout for a replacement commuter...
The two catching my eye at the moment are the Revolution Courier http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ebwPNLqrymode.a4p?f_ProductID=12410&f_FullProductVersion=1&f_SupersetQRY=C224&f_SortOrderID=1&f_bct=c023254c023606 or perhaps the same with discs (I have discs & like them) or possibly hub gears or a Decathlon Riverside 5 http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/riverside-5-men-s-141401402
Anybody have any suggestions along these lines (budget around £300) that might be worth a look at.

Bang on budget and readily avialable, don't look at my sig if you think it makes me biased! (not that mine is anything at all like a 'production' one.

Thanks. Looks possible and a little different from what I'm considering. Might go have a look later. There is no secret ingredient...0 -
That Carrera looks good for the money for a nippy commuter.FCN 2 to 80

It gets a good review on BR here

That the criticisms are the tyre width it can accomodate and minor comments about weight (frame is 1.8Kg, so hardly a bloater, but admittedly no flyweight either) and gearing (easily fixed with a different cassette if its an issue) is indication of how good a value for money this is at the £300 price point.
A V-braked version is also available, but is not much cheaper.
My frame is the medium, I am 5'10" (but short of leg) and using a 90mm stem I find it very comfy, mine uses all MTB kit so I am running 26x1.5" tyres on mine.
