Looking for some headphones for christmas, got around £30 to spend. Looking at Sennheisers and Shures, never used Shures but got good experiences with Sennheisers. Favourite at this price seems to be the CX100 II's, can be got off eBay for £11 aswell
Any recomendations? Oh need to be in ear, and thats about it..
Cheers

Sennheisers are always a good bet at this price but there are an abundance of fakes around - don't get them off ebay. CX 400s look like a good bet."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0

Hmm okay thanks, I'd probably be getting them in HMV. And what do you get as you spend more?Quote:

Nope, people who have bought them.0 -
Not an expert on earphones but I really rate the skullcandys I've got both my in ear ones and my proper headphones. My in ears I tended to break in 3 or 4 months all the while just through bashing them about in my pocket, but my skullcandys will have lasted me 2 years Xmas0

Essentially you'll get more detail and clarity - the different parts of the music start to stand out from each other rather than blending into a muddy mess like you get with awful cheap headphones. I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination and that is a pretty terrible description.
The fake headphones that are out there really are very good fakes - exactly the same packaging and the headphones themselves look the same. You'd probably stuggle to tell real from fake when they were side by side.
My current in ears are Ultimate Ears Superfi 5s - they cost upwards of £80 from most places but I got mine for £30 so it's worth looking around, I'm afraid i have no idea where I got mine from though!"Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0 -
I really rate JVC Gummy's ATM. Super cheap which is why I got them since I have a habit of wrecking earphones (my set of sennheiser's lasted about 5 months) but these are about 7 months old now and are lasting great, really good sound for the money and comfortable for casual use.
Only thing is I find they tend to fall out when riding on rough ground but I am yet to find a set of in ears that don't. I am considering trying some of the JVC's with the ear hooks for when I'm MTBing because it's getting rather lonely riding on my own with no music.

I agree they are not bad for the price but 'really good sound'? You've got to be kidding!?0 -

Try some proper in ears with silicons buds, like Sennheiser CX300s.
Whatever you get mrmfilo avoid skullcandy, the do sound a bit shite for the money"Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0 -

Tried similar and still didn't work and I always lost the silicon bits anyways which didn't help either :roll:0 -
My skullcandys doing fine and cost me 9 quid from tk maxx and lasted me 2 years, I have a spare pair in the car that were a tenner and equally as good0

For that kind of money fair play, they'll be as good as anything else at that price. However at full whack they really aren't cheap and they just don't cut the mustard next to some of the proper headphone brands at the same price point."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. I've always used sony earbuds and never had any issues. Great sound quality and not to pricey.Bikes are OK, I guess... :-)

fair enough I've not tried sennheissers, but I think skullcandys have dropped in price in the right places, play, tk maxx etc. I agree they can be high priced, mainly due to styling and branding but there's no need to pay above a tenner for in ears and 20 for full headphones0 -
senheiser CX300s are great. I've had my pair 2+ years, used every day, and the left bud has just died on me recently. Going to replace with CX300II's. For £40 they are clear crisp and have good clarity. Cant recommend them enough0

Anyone recommend an earphone that is loud, and with BASS?
I'm using some cheapo-brand ''Koss'' earphones at the moment. Unfortunately, they stopped making the earphones I loved, and instead put a gimmicky stupid volume control on the wire, which just breaks instantly, and makes the sound cut it and out through moving the wire alone.
Grrrr....
So, any recommendations to the bassy-est, loudest in-earphone?Boo-yah mofo
Sick to the power of rad
Fix it 'till it's broke0 -

Ooo, I can't agree with that! The increase in quality decreases for every extra £1 (or £10, or £100!) you spend, but the Denon AH-C551s that I've got are brilliant compared to the other headphones I've had. And the slightly cheaper Creative Aurvana were brilliant compared to everything that cost less than them. And the Sonys I had before that were better than everything cheaper than them........
BTW, OP check out the Creative Aurvanas, I really liked them, they did an amazing job of blocking outside sound.0 -
I just buy whatevers cheapest and has the highest DB rating for 10 pounds. They'll be broken in a month anyways.0

Cheers everyone, I think i'll be getting the CX300 II's, or 400's - a mate has some MX270 which sound very good, so I should be happy with anything above that level. And IMO Skullcandys are more for fashion; look good, but better sound out there for the money.
Thanks again0 -
Had CX 300's and they were excellent! Although i was a bit miffed that one earphone died after 11 months of use Will be getting some more tho0

The bass is as much to do with how well the earphones fit in your ear as the bass they actually produce. One way of improving fit is to get some Comply tips to replace the silicone jobbies on in ear headphones - they are made of the same sort of foam as those disposable earplugs so they expand in your ear to get a perfect fit.
