Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in.

But seeing as most of us are just ordinary club/weekend cyclists this news is just another sad story of the dangers us cyclists have to contain with through car drivers on Drugs,Drink,Mobile phones etc. - Maybe we should send these stories to these A*sehole celebrities like chef James martin and Clarkson who have said i would run cyclists over given half a chance.

Lets all say a prayer to the lost one's - God bless them.

  • That's a truly horrific incident, probably the worst I've ever heard about. Let's hope the driver is thrown in the slammer and they throw away the key.

I have to say that I've cycled in Italy many times, and have generally found that the Italian drivers really treat cyclists with the utmost respect. They usually will hang back until it's safe the overtake, and then quietly cruise past giving plenty of room.

    Shocking.
Remember seeing the pics of a car ploughing into a race....in Asia(???) but the loss of life wasn't as bad as this :(

    Horrible, truly horrible.

  • Seven and what's more, the driver smoked marijuana which makes you in my opinion, forgetful, the driver did not have a license and it was taken because he was caught for dangerous driving months ago.! I don't know what can be done about that?

Unbelievably sad and my thought and prayers for these riders and their poor families and friends.

I don't know if I've ever read about a bicycles/car accident with so many cyclists getting killed. A few Winters ago, there was that accident in Wales, Club cyclists I believe on an icy road, still wasn't it around 3 or less that got killed? I would think the weather in Southern Italy is relatively mild now.

    I had to check Italy's Gazzetta for their coverage; http://www.gazzetta.it/Ciclismo/05-12-2 ... 3871.shtml

I'm hearing one person say the motorist was trying to pass slower traffic, maybe it was a head on, horrid.

Moroccan immigrant I've got to add on, just a part of the story.

I have vague memories of a car plowing into a race in Mexico but we may be talking about two different races.
