Its been a crap year for me persoanly.
Started out well with so many prospects, ambitions, dreams, goals.
Anyway it all went tits up.

Ive decided to put this list together to remind myself about the things that i have & can do that i often take for granted!
Everyone can join in. :)

Having heaters that i can turn on in my flat to warm up when it -10 celcius outside.
Being able to get a hot shower.
Having a TV to watch.
Having a computer.
Having the internet.
Being able to buy food to eat.
Have the facilitys to cook food.
Having my own space.
Having a washing machine to be able to clean my cloths.
Having a comfortable bed to sleep in.
Having freinds and family who i can visit.
Having a motor vechicle to get around in.

Basicaly these are the most important things to me and i take them for granted all the time.
Anything more than this is a bouns!

Id say im quite fortunite realy!

  • No doubt everyone on this forum take all those things for granted. Fact is 90% of the worlds population don't have the same opporunity.

Yeah and you've got people like Charlotte Metcalf crying about what she cant have instead of appreciating what she has got.

I i can keep all the things on that list then i figure im doing alright!

Being able to cook a decent, tasty, healthy meal.
Having a lovely warm duvet and hot water bottle and a girlfriend who warms the bed up nicely.
Having loads of great memories that nobody will ever take away.
Being healthy (3 years since I was last ill, although I'm sure I've just cursed that).
Being the next step in evolution - one day all humans will be (or will aim to be) like me.
Always having an entertaining thread to turn to in Cake Stop.

I take nothing for granted. But am happy for what I do have.

    Don't have a job
    Don't have a partner
    Don't have kids
Don't have one of my legs :)

But I have a place to rest my head, food to eat and a bike to ride. I hope that one day that will lead to more.

It's been a very mixed year for me too - but it just means that better things lie ahead. World is what you make it and it all starts with what you make of yourself. The rest will all kind of fall in place....

That Maslow fella new something - and I'm happy that I can work on the top of the pyramid.

It's been a strange year here at Chez SloBoy also. Some of the highest stress moments we've ever had to deal with and also some really good times of family togetherness.

Another year of extremes - some of the top of Maslow's pyramid have been met this year and most of the bottom ones have been in place for many years, but have a few gaps in the love and belonginess level.

    Anyway here's to a great 2011.

The only things you 'need' in life are good friends and loving relatives. i.e. some people who will arrange your funeral.

    Mayonnaise Jar &Two Beers...

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Beers.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.

When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full.

    They agreed that it was..

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.

The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full.

    They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.

Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full.

The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

    The students laughed..

'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favourite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car..

The sand is everything else---the small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

    The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

    Spend time with your children.

    Spend time with your parents.

    Visit with grandparents.

Take time to get medical checkups.

Take your spouse out to dinner.

    Play another 18..

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter.

    Set your priorities.

    The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented.

The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.'

The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Beers with a friend

My job - it gets on my tits a lot but it is what ensures I have all the other things I take for granted. Also, as above health - I stopped taking this for granted a few years back when my little girl got ill and at about the same time I ended up spending a day on a cancer ward with people my own age fighting for their lives.

Some people would question good old Maslow and his heirarchy.

How many stories do we know from human history where people have been in wretched circumstances, physical discomfort, lacking basic nutritiion and YET, in spite of it all, have done the most incredible things for one another using their creativity, spirit and everything else in the golden bit of the pyramid?

first world war, holocaust, natural disasters are the most extreme cases, but read any travel adventure book and you'll find the same thing going on. If we see to our own basic needs first, we may never see anything else.

    just a thought!

Every time I have a dump at work I have to remind myself how lucky I am to have Angry Birds on my iPhone.
