Who are you backing to be the up-and-coming new names over the next few years?

My club has just signed up young Italian rider Diego Ulessi as a honorary member. He's bubbling under, check him out and list the new guys that you're putting your money on:-

I'm a bit surprised no-one's taken a chance on Tail Fur (as I can't help thinking of him) - he had a year at VC Roubaix, but they seem to be a bit of a clearing house for very young talent (he's still only 21). Is he lined-up for a bigger team long-term? And what's happening with Jocelyn Bar at Roubaix, I wonder if this team has the best chance to nurture this sort of rider?

As it seems, they did not give him a contract for next year

Hmm, that blog's pretty scathing isn't it? Bar's only a baby really at 22, let's hope he doesn't end up on the scrapheap after representing France at the U-23 world's just a couple of years ago.
  • Leigh Howard, Adam Blythe, Peter Kennaugh i think all will have good successful careers
  • OOOPS!!!
Something went wrong with my original post. Here is the link for my tip for the future Diego Ulissi...

Yes - All going well they could be the new Shleck brothers
  • I think Kennaugh (P) is the long term hope for Sky for a British TDF winner

  • A bit of a set back for Tim in being released from the academy. He is a talented lad but may need to show a bit more of the same dedication and determination that his big brother has demonstrated.

Richie Porte he can sprint, climb, time-trial and ride stage races. With the Schleck brothers gone and Contador looking dodgy for this coming season he could shine and whats refreshing is he is a nice guy and has a mature head.

Other than him next has got to be.....Jason (life begins at forty) Queally :P

Peter Sagan was one of the most imrpressive breakthrough riders of last year - fearless. Appreciate not quite as obscure as some of the names mentioned here...

One I will be watching the most is Adam Blythe although he seems to be doing a good job of being a current talent and not just one for the future. He has an exciting future.

I'm not sure being released by the Academy is necessarily a bad thing for an aspiring road racer. He's only 19 and without the comfort blanket of academy support he will arguably have to work hard, getting dropped seems to have spurred a few others on over the years.

Yes didn't Adam Blythe leave the academy too - by mutual consent or something like that.

Indeed he did, was not too keen on the climbs in Italian racing.

Agreed. Perhaps there is a downside to the academy in that it spoon feeds riders and takes away some of the hunger. A double edged sword in view of the opportunity that it can offer.

  • Tim does have a good brother to learn from! but i am not sure if he is as talented at Pete but he could still probably make the big time, There must be something in the Isle of Man water....

Watching the Sporza highlights of 2010 reminded me of Sep Vanmarcke of Topsport Vlaanderen.

    2nd at Ghent-Wevelgem.

    He's only 22.
