Does look interesting and has some great advantages over normal gearing, but apart from weight and likely cost, the problem is that it's built into the frame - not something you could fit as an upgrade.
Unless it's a stunningly good mech and is adopted into the frame design of some of the leading makers at a competitive price, I doubt it could challenge something like the Rohloff 500-14 which performs a similar function and can be fitted as an upgrade to practically any existing bike.
That said it's always good to see ongoing dev in bike gearing. Current derailleur design dates from the late 1940's iirc, and with modern materials and processes it should be possible to produce something better- less susceptible to crud & collision - and lighter. It will take a big lateral shift in thinking though, and many years, to supercede a deeply engrained 'standard' like the derailleur system, despite it's weaknesses.
My abundant supply of MTFU is reserved for use in dry, sunny conditions.
  • From the product FAQ:

In its present form, the P-1, including chainwheel, without cranks weights approx. 2.7 kg.

Now what if you had that, a triple on the front and a 10spd cassette on the back?

    It would be REALLY heavy!

The 634% range is more than current MTB triple setups, more than I would need.

Somewhere on Sheldon Brown's website he built something with, I think, a triple front, 7 rear, and a 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub, so around 63 ratios in all.

After reading about grumbles of the weight of the Rohloff being all at the back, I was wondering why not have a Rohloff built into the bottom bracket ? This is practically it.

    No, 3*18*14 = 756

    Or just 18*14 = 252

Not sure where the 420 comes from.
