    me too,

Im sure you can get and SLX mech thats double specific, not entirely sure on the point of it a as a triple type mech will work fine.

    same here.

Although not overly important, you can also adjust the limit screws on the front mech to stop overshifting and fowling the bashring.

I've got the double SLX crankset on my bike and I bought the double mech to match, but it didn't fit around the bash properly, probably something to do with the shape of my seattube. Anyways, I changed it to the triple SLX mech and it works fine now and I've also limited the screws so that the front shifter only moves in the first two clicks.

If you really want to fit a 2 way shifter then you could buy a Shimano XTR 10spd shifter. It has a 2x, 3x mode converter, but it is kinda pricey just for the sake of having a shifter that can be changed to a 2x mode.

Resurrecting an old thread but when you change to double and bash

do you change the cable tension so middle is 3 and inner is two and set the low stop so the chain doesnt drop off the granny?

or just set the high stop so the mech wont move the chain on to the bash if you accidentally knock the lever into position 3?

Thinking of changing to double and bash perhaps with a E*13 DRS or similar.

  • just set the limit screw so that it can't shift up into what will not be the bash ring.....shouldn't need any adjustment apart from that if you've got it set up sweet already.

i can actually shift to the 3rd position but it's set so that it doesn't push the chain up when it does.

I use the two lower positions with the h limit screw set so it can't move to the highest.

A friend ressts it so in '2' it's on the granny and '3' its on the larger ring (middle location) does this so he doesn't try and force it (loading cable) by trying to shift against the H stop, personally I don't bother.

I split a GT to build the wife's bike, that was a double and bash as standard, the left shifter only had 1 and 2 markings but was a 3 speed shifter as it would shift into 3rd and just had a blank display!

Which is why so many people are going to a double, with or without a bash, going from the 'near standard' 32 middle ring to a 36 will get you back 1 (and a bit) of the three gears you loose when dropping the largest ring.

I find the 32 is enough for me anywhere except the road, which I avoid most of the time anyway. If I go too fast I get scared.

Using a double shifter with a triple ring set up converted to double and bash might not work as I believe double only chainsets have different spacing to triples, so the double shifter won't move the front mech the correct amount! I have been running a double and bash for 3 months and have had no problems with it, simply replaced the outer ring and adjusted the H screw so the chain can't shift onto the bash.

I think not, they should have the same spacing. Different spacing is with 10 spd cranks.

Thanks fitted the chain guide and bash and adjusted the stop so it wont go past middle. Just need a new wearplate kit as there are no spacers fitted and the chain isn't centred on the roller.

Works well, works so well I bought another used DRS for my DR Jekyll, just need to swap the back plates as the one I have is bb/iscg old and the one I'm getting is bb mount My Orange hasn't got ISCG mounts but the Identiti has so might as well use the iscg one on my iscg frame
