My experience of Afghanistan Security Forces is that they cant even get out the gate and patrol without British troops........ Anyone else find it a touch offensive?
As for the Americans........

Its the politics of the endgame. You'll see the ethnic rivalries now come to the fore. The best way to unite a natio is to have a common enemy, even if the enemy was once your friend. I could never support any war but to have the Americans make an assessment of the capability of british troops when only last year they added more US troops to the mix to 'increase capacity' seems a bit rich.
The US have been itching to get a foothold in Pakistan as it borders china, you can see the black propagandists at work with the news that Pakistan is the base for the taliban. Britain has a long, and not always noble association with the region, and the US wikileaks remarks seem to me to be just that, black propaganda aimed at putting a wedge beyween the UK's and pakistan.
Ultimately there are 2 ways of fighting the war in afghan; to win hearts and minds or to force victory through the barrel of a gun. The Americans clearly chose the latter, it is brutish and ignorant and will come back to haunt them.
Must be a real kick in the teeth for those serving out there though. The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -
If that's the case we may as well go and leave them to it - no point British troops laying down their lives for an ungrateful President or 'allies' who only understand a sledgehammer strategy.0

if only the British government had the stones/dignity to say "fuck em then" and stop wasting so much money on such an unnecessary causeCrafted in Italy apparantly0

Your both right, after a summer tour in Sangin this year, were I seen sights and put up with stuff i'd never what anyone of you guys to see, not to mention the 12 men from my Battalion who lost their lives, its not a bit rich as Cleat puts it, for me personally it's down right fooking offensive, especially President Karsi the amount of british soldiers fallen in Helmand for that selfish bent bastard......Helmand Province is such a nice place.....0

They always have done and always will do - as long as they don't pose a security threat to us just leave them to it.0 -
it's Afghanistan. the russians had a bad time there and the British under Roberts in the 1870s (I think) had difficulties out there. read about the British Army and the march from Kabul to Khandahar. It's all to do with global politics/sphere of influence etc.M.Rushton0

The Brits had problems there earlier than that (about 1840 and the retreat from Kabul) although I think it was classed as a province of India then :? Some places are just ungovernable and we need to accept that.0
