Long or short rear mech

Hi Guy's,
Hope you can help.
I want to run my bike with 1 gear up front and 8 gears at the rear.
The front chainring is a middleburn 38T which I don't want to change.
I.m currently running singlespeed with 38T front and 15T rear.
I am planning using a Sora 12 - 25 rear cassette which will give me the wee bit extra gearing I require.
I would also like to use a XT rear mech but before I spend any money I'm confused about wether to buy a long or short cage.
Your help and advice will be much appreciated.
Kind Regards

have a read http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12546123
but a short road mech would be your best bet. as your range is just 13T"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

and another reason for going for a road mech is that they will sit closer to the cassette than an MTB mech. both will work but one a little better than the other."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
