    Than what?!

For 20 quid all in you have a reasonable set that is about 20 times as bright as the Halfords offering for less money. You said expensive lights - even if you add another torch, is only just over 30 quid, hardly expensive - I class the 150 quid up bracket as expensive lol. And it will still outperform most of these.

Ok i think the point i was trying to make has been somewhat lost in communication.

I myself own a halfords light, i'd be rather interested in this deal actually.

Ah lol, I sort of read it as you'd spend 20 only on cheap lights, or spend a fortune  . Loads of options inbetween of course, including the Magicshine at 50 quid for an all in one solution.

Reminds me, I'll charge my batteries up and get you some beam shots later from the torches.

Why have a 900 lumen magicshine?

would that not light up the trail like daylight?
surely you would be better to just use the moon for proper night riding!
Probably which its why I wrote:

I've been using an ultrafire on my helmet and Ay-ups on the bars and TBH that combo is about as bright as you need.I've just bought a magicshine(£43 from DX) for the bars and the Ay-ups will now go on the helmet and this combo is probably overkill(900L +340L)
Not so long ago we were using a 5watt+10watt electron set, perfectly OK but battery was too big and heavy. If you want the trail lit up like daylight then why not just ride in daylight

I've no idea what 5w+10watt Halogen output is in lumens but it was more than adequate.

I agree but It's not often we get crisp clear moonlit nights

I'll also get a pic of my 'superbright LED' Raleigh commuting light. You'll be astonished at the difference!

You do need more than 2 for serious night riding. but given you can get 4k lumen
    4k Lumen ...why?

as others have said the 4K lumen was just to show how much light you can get. 4 XM-L lights will deliver equiv. to a set of quality HID headlights and be twice as bright as a typical car. Would be over kill though..

I tend to run more lights for enduro, purely because then I can run them at lower power and get longer run times out. For example 6 XPGs on low, will give out more usable light than a MS light an run for about 7-10 hours depending on cells. But typically I will switch a few off as necessary.

works as a kind of fog, light, dipped and main beam etc.

Personally I go night riding, to train during the winter, not because I want to play in the dark. But as I have said before, if other you ride with have bright lights, you need bright lights.
