I have just got my first set of bib tights and was wandering what is the correct way to layer up?
should I put the bibs on first with no pants(they have a pad) and put top of bibs on bare torso then my base layer over, then mid layer and outer layer, and my 3/4 outer shorts on?
or should I have the base layer under the Bibs on my torso, then bibs then mid layer etc?

    Commando, bibs, then layers IMHO

  • Base layer under bibs so it is in better contact with skin to get more wicking.

Never thought about this before. Base layer over bib works for me.

Wouldn't the bottom of your base layer scrunch up if it was tucked into your bibs?
  • i always baselayer bib tights then shorts then jacket etc etc
  • less than if it was on top, the straps will hold it down.

I'll give that a go too............if it ever stops snowing.
  • Definitely base layer under the bibs otherwise you struggle to get the straps out of the way. Also, if wearing leggings or tights, then definitely go with bibs underneath so you have the pad against the skin. And as for wearing underwear whilst using Lycra, don't even start!
  • Base layer under bibs, easier to get the straps down, and also stops the straps rubbing if the cold gives you nipples like dead men's thumbs.
  • +1 for base layer under bibs, the clue is in the name.

Bibs under base for me. Getting a new pair of bibs with a 'comfort zip' that should let me have something to drink on long rides without fearing the need to strip off.

  • base layer than bibs for me - i find bibs straps can rub my shoulders if in direct contact with the skin
  • base layer, bibs need to tuck your "vest into your pants! save any cold drafts up the back!

Base layer, padded bib shorts, unpadded bib tights for me. Definite no to underwear.
