joeshmo. Hi Brad. I know you are a tour history aficionado. Who has been the best Tour rider to date bearing in mind the war effecting fausto and lemond's gun shot wounds etc etc

    Because Merckx was clearly better, perhaps. Even Armstrong doesn't think otherwise.

    Yep I get that - Merckx walks if you take everything into account

    But I only mentioned the tour

    Merckx 'only' won the overall 5 times compared to Armstrong's 7, but in addition, he won:

    KOM twice (Armstrong didn't win it)
    Points 3 times (Armstrong didn't win it)
    34 stages (Armstrong: 22)

    Merckx was a better Tour rider than Armstrong, overall.

    LA isn't even second IMO. Hinault won 5 overall, 1 mountains, 1 points and 28 stages.
