Recently spotted the above mentioned bike on the auction-site-who-shall-not-be-named.

The ad and my correspondence with the seller strongly suggests it has been nicked. If you think it may be your bike give me a shout and I'll link you up.

Reported for keyword spamming, which is something I guess :)

    '09 Enigma Eclipse with SRAM.
'10 Tifosi CK7 Audax Classic with assorted bits for the wet weather
'08 Boardman Hybrid Comp for the very wet weather.

well when you accuse someone with no evidence but your own speculation, what else do you expect.
  • Forgive me if I've got this wrong, but are you suggesting me drawing attention to the sale of a blatantly stolen bike here is wrong? I would certainly hope someone would do the same for me if it was my bike that had been nicked.

no, you did good posting it here. but it's one thing to draw attention to it, and another to make accusations without evidence. and what we think/believe, no matter how experienced we are, cannot count as evidence.

He wasn't in court, he doesn't need proof to make a suggestion. I see it's not the first bike he has sold either. The other one was a generic pic so maybe he steals to order as well.

I don't get it. I should draw attention to it or I should not? Obviously I have no evidence that the bike has been stolen, but I wasn't looking to secure a conviction. I was merely thinking that if a member here had recently had their blue famed, gold hubbed fixie stolen they could take a look to see if it was theirs.

Where dodgy looking eBay and gumtree ads are concerned all we ever have are suspicions. In this case mine were roused by the ad itself plus the conversation I had with the seller who showed he knew nothing about the bike beyond that he bought it from a market and that the front wheel is a Bontrager, and let's face it, it probably has 'Bontrager' written on it.

I'll edit my original post as I've clearly caused offence.

then what's the point of the suggestion? other than to piss off the seller.

i'm sorry if i sounded too forceful. i do think it's nice you posted it here.
it's just that at this moment, we can't be sure it is stolen, so by accusing the seller, all we accomplish is either annoy a genuine seller, or startle a criminal, which makes him harder to catch.

If the seller was honest he might have been concerned to know that the bike was probably stolen, and if he's a thief then how is pissing him off a bad thing?

by that logic we should suggest to all the sellers that they are thieves.

So what do you suggest when we see ads that ring alarm bells? Simply ignore them and hope that karma takes care of it?

Don't worry, you didn't sound forceful. You simply came across as one of those people who enjoy creating arguments just for the sake of it.
  • where did the link go ?

post the link here so folks can take some extra thought. but don't contact the seller saying he's a thief.

I removed it because Veloren seemed to suggest mentioning eBay - sorry, I mean that popular online auction site - was spamming. If you want to find it just search for 'titanium road bike' (it is neither titanium nor a road bike).

I wasn't suggesting you were spamming, I was commenting that I'd reported the eBay poster for spamming (specifically using keywords that didn't apply to the bike)

    '09 Enigma Eclipse with SRAM.
'10 Tifosi CK7 Audax Classic with assorted bits for the wet weather
'08 Boardman Hybrid Comp for the very wet weather.

Ah, forgive me! I guess it was tx14's follow up post to yours made me assume I had done something wrong. Good on you for going to the effort and apologies once more.

When I was in contact with the seller and told him I was no longer interested in his bike as I suspected it was stolen he called me a 'honky', which I thought was pretty cool. I haven't heard that name since watching episodes of that awful sitcom Love thy Neighbour as a kid.
