Is Power Torque just the new Ultra Torque?

Hi folks,

With having a 6yr old Chorus groupset on my bike, the whole Ultra/Power Torque thing has passed me by.
I'm planning on getting a compact and was originally going for the Centaur alloy UT from Ribble at £105 but when I saw Merlin were doing the UT carbon for £150, I thought I might as well save some weight.

Having a look about :

UT carbon - £150 Merlin, £170 Ribble (760g)
PT carbon - £213 Ribble (644g)

or just stick with the alloy...PT (black) £113 from Ribble (738g).

I was wondering what the differences are? PT worth the extra?
Is it a no brainer and go for the carbon from Merlin?
Do I save more money and go with the black alloy as it doesn't seem heavy at all...nearly 200g saved over the UT alloy version?

Thanks :?

PT has been designed for use on the cheaper groupsets UT is still used on the top of the range stuff. Therefore I would surmise that UT is better and more expensive to make than PT. I have UT and really like its simplicity.

Thanks mate. Is the PT more expensive only because it's newer or, according to the weights on Ribble, lighter?
£150 from Merlin a bargain then?

I guess you will pay more for the newer kit. Check out the weights on the Campag website.
I bought Carbon Centaur early 2009 and was advised to try and get 2008 because the quality of the rings was better. It was before they made them black. I ended up with 2009 though. Newer doesnt necessarily mean better.
