The front Specialized 25mm Hub on my Enduro [for the E150 fork] has started to squeak. Its not the brakes because I have removed them for testing.

There is no play at all and runs good. How do i lube it? It looks sealed.

This has happened since I have used MucOff Nanotec, some must have found its way onto the hub.

Thanks!

the same as most hubs with cartridge bearings.

I bet that when you remove the cones it will shut up.

wipe them down inside and out and re fit.

it could just be some dirt rubbing between the metal.

other options is to lift the seal and put some grease in if you dont want to replace the bearings.

    Sealed cartridge bearings.
Remove the top hat spacers(The black plastic things at either end of the hub, they just pull-out)and you'll see the bearings(you obviously have to remove the rotor). There'll be loads of gunk in there, wipe down and try to spin the inner bearing race with your finger,if notchy replace.
Specialized stock bearings are shite.Mine need replacing every 6 months or so,dead easy when you've done it once.I can do it from start to finish in about 30 mins....but I've had the bike two and a half years and have had loads of practice 8)
I now remove the top-hats and regrease every 5 or 6 rides as they appear to be a bad design and water gets in easily.
  • Thanks! How do you remove the top hats? Do you use some sort of grips like in the guide?

I think the dust covers might have been squeaking, because I have carefully squirted lube into the seals whilst the wheel was spun at a horizontal angle so that it could seep into the casing and the squeaking has stopped.

I expect this will be a temporary measure until I do what you say!

  • Thanks, I will give it a go. I have read that the axle is a pig to remove from the hub and fork. Any tips?

The bearings are 6805 2rs you can get them from ebay or local bearing supplier cheaper and probably of better quality than the ones from specialized. Replaced mine about 8 months ago and filled them with as much grease as I could get in, still running smooth so far!
  • Thanks for the advice!

What????!!!!Undo the pinch bolt on each fork leg then undo the axle, takes about 10 seconds and is just as easy as undong a QR!!
  • Haha, I read that someone had to knock it out!

I'll have a go over the Xmas period!

    Thanks BTW

Occasionally it gets stuck, happens mostly in winter when water gets between the thru-axle and wheel and it sticks inside. Lightly grease the thru-axle and you'll be fine :)

Nightmare! Good luck and at least someone has been kind enough to make an extensive guide with lots of photos.
