C2W whats going on? Moving target?

Can anyone explain to me what on earth is going on with C2W? I have just got to the end of my contract period and was expecting to pay about £50 to keep the bike. I just got emailed today that I need to pay £250 to keep the bike!!!!
That very nearly cancels out all the savings!
What they seem to want me to do is extend the contract period by 3 years for a £70 after which the bike would effectively be mine with no further payment.
Just wondered if anyone knows what this is all about and whether to trust them given that my agreement has completely changed during the contract period and they could very well do it again!
