I ordered a new bottom bracket from a un-named bike shop on the 8th of November. The bottom bracket was not shown as in stock or out of stock when i ordered it so i made the assumption they had stock of it.

After a email to the supplier after paying what i thought was a quite large postal fee (for said item) and nothing arriving after a few days it transpired the shop just drop shipped all its stuff from Hope and they were shut till the Monday the 15th. but it would be shipped shortly after that date. On the 17th i received a dispatch notification from the shop and now on the 22nd i still have no bottom bracket. I emailed the shop while i was away for a further update and have had no reply as of yet.

Should i try for a refund on the postage as they have taken the piss imho, For close to £6 in postage and packaging fees it would have covered next day delivery.

Will stick with CRC and Merlin in future.

What did the notification say? Any tracking details, or times?

    The moment it was ordered.

Sonic, no other details other than to say it had been sent via Royal Mail on the 17/11/10 email received at 14.37
  • Sorry payment was taken on the 9th of November.

Royal Mail allows 14 working days until an item is deemed lost. But if the shop cannot provide proof of postage, then I think you are entitled to a refund.
  • Will be calling them up first thing tomorrow.

Hacks me off there was no apology for the lack of info or the fact that Hope were closed stopping them dispatching my order.

    Cheers for the info.
  • Quick update. It has shown up this morning. Postal markings show it was sent on the 22nd not the 17th. Total piss take really and i am getting onto the shop now.

tbh, i don't think there's a lot you can do, unless you paid for next day delivery or they state their turnaround times on the website. They're perfectly within their rights to take a few days to process an order, unless they have stated that they guarantee otherwise.

I believe charging a persons card is a bit naughty if you don't have the item in stock, tho i'm not sure on the legality. I know once they've charged they are deemed to be in a contract with you and therefore must supply the item, which is why a lot of places don't charge until just prior to dispatch.

If it's arrived, why give yourself extra stress and high blood pressure?

Could I ask why the shop is still un-named? I would like to know who they are so i can avoid them.

I'm with Dad on this... it arrived, presumably it's ok. I'd also assume that you got it for a decent price otherwise you'd have just used Wiggle etc. I'm guessing you knew the cost of postage when you ordered as well, so basically the complaint is that Hope were shut so it took a while to arrive.

Put it down to experience and move on...
