Why dont shimano use 'shaddow' technology on road mechs?
Ive been wondering this for a while, but thought I'd ask as there must be a reason why not.
Compare the following two mechs:
XT shaddow

Ultegra 6700

The shaddow mech came about to bring the vunerable component tighter into the bike so as to avoid the chance of catching it on a rock etc. This itself is irrelevant on a road bike (but I suppose it could be argued that it would less likely be caught up in another front when in a group riding situation.)
What struck me is that the shaddow mech body (ignoring the cage for the moment) also presents a smaller aerodynamic profile when viewed from the front. Compare this to how far the Ultegra mech hangs out in the wind. In the market where aero 'sells' you'd think they would exploit this.
The shaddow mech also uses a much cleaner and more direct cable path, where the Ultegra mech still uses the great big loop hanging out the back.
Why have shimano not chosen to adopt this technology for road use too? Its introduction brought a big improvement for MTB gearing, I just cant see the logic in not doing so.

I don't know, but maybe the loss of the adjuster is a disadvantage, whilst the benefits are not so great on road bikes (I do use a shadow SLX on my tourer though, just what was cheap at the time, though would like the adjuster).0
