    Mornin all,

Off to a big greasy spoon breakfast in town with a couple of mates in an hours time, then will see how this weather goes before deciding whether to persuade junior to come out on the bike with me.

  • Good morning, suffering big-time (too many beers Friday/yesterday... going to chill in today with a couple of lagers....

Wheelset didnt turn up yesterday although they were supposed to and my Mavic shoes have gone 'missing' at the PO depot.. not good times :(

    God, I hate hangovers :(
  • Just got back from my first XC race (end2end dosent count imho), and I think I'm actually dead!

Rode the 11 miles there as a "warm-up". Foolish, FOOLISH thing to do as I then had to do 4x30min laps and then ride the 11 miles back home again. Underestimated just how hard it would be.

Course was pretty good, lots of tight singletrack climbing, some fast descents and then some very tricky, very soggy, very boggy, loamy descents through the trees with a couple of decent drops. Not too "gnarcore", but still bad enough to snap 2 peoples XC frames.

Not sure how I did. Not very well I suspect, but not last either (I think the 1 legged, blind man on a unicycle was just behind me)

Just waiting for them to post the results now.

They've still not posted them

Not so sure about the more gnarley tyre if I'm honest. Not sure if I was running at the wrong pressure or something, but they seemed to just have no grip at all. After 1 lap I had to stop and put more air in because I was bouncing about too much and was going to pinch-flat, then once they had more pressure in, they seemed to clog up quite quickly and wanted to slide out on anything but hardpack. They actually seemed LESS grippy than the Fat Alberts they replaced.

I think I'm going to have to play about with them a bit to get the pressures right.
  • Finished 41/57 in the Seniors

I've come to the conclusion I'm not a racer.

  • I should mention that the top 3 times over 4 laps (min:sec) were:

    64:10
    80:20
    83:00

and my time was a fairly poor 116:24

It was ok for a laugh, I've not really got a racing mentality though. There were even times during the race I found myself pootling along at a steady pace rather than racing and had to kick myself up the arris to get a move on.

I'm a leisure cyclist and proud of it!

Although I would be interested to see what sort of time I could do on an XC bike, just as a comparison.

LOL i find myself doing that, but i have finally learned to go at my pace and not at the whippits pace, and blow myself out in the first half a lap! Slow and steady is where its at LOL but not too slow
I found my 29er much quicker than my carbon Scott Genius which was designed for marathon races ? hence why i kept the 29er and sold the genius 8)
