Specialized hub conversion?

Ok a friend of mine has just brought an old school gt i drive frame and has a Specialized hubed rear wheel. the hub appears to have a bolt up axle. ( you put the wheel in the frame and then do 2 allen bolts up to secure the wheel to the frame.) The hub also has cartridge bearings. to make the hub work with his frame he needs to convert it to take a standard qr axle is there a kit which will do this, like you can with Hope hubs?

The hub sits in between the drop outs ok but the bolts need to be spaced out quiet a lot to be able to get them to grip the frame.

I know this is a bit vague sorry.

  • Well i un did both ends of the hubs axle and what came out was very similar to what you get when you convert a hope pro 2 from qr to 15mm. so i was just wondering if there were similar kits for the specialized hubs. had a quick Google and turned up nothing.

so it is a NUTTED rear hub or a bolted hub?

still no idea why it will not fit.

  • It's bilted but the thread on the drive side will not go in far enough to hold the wheel tight in the drop out. looks like the came off a frame with a much chunkier rear end.
