Marks + Spencers insurance

Often recommended on this forum when insurance advice sought, well a couple of years ago I switched to M+S based on advice here and up until a couple of weeks ago had to need to use it.
On the 4th November whilst on a cycling tour in Laos (highly recommend it, a great country despite what happened) my hotel room was broken into and several items stolen - OK, so no expensive bike but a Garmin Edge 500, Lumix camera and £250 cash, a total value of about £700. Police callled and although details were taken no report or incident number were issued - I thought the worst.
Finally got home and Wednesday evening phoned M+S to start the ball rolling to make a claim, well by Thursday 4pm it was all sorted - new Edge 500 and Lumix LX5 camera on the way, cash will take a little longer (had to send a copy of the bank currency transaction paperwork).
I have to be honest I was expecting a bit of a drama, I had dug out receipts and insisted on reports from the tour company to explain what happened but it went smooth as you like - I can only sing their praises, customer service in this day and age is often lacking but M+S insurance have been an exception.

Very good to know.
I'm now with M&S after Axa refused to insure my bikes.
Guess who underwrites M&S insurance?
Axa. Funny world.0 -
been with MS for a while for the whole easy bike cover, good to know they play fair.0

Yep, i just recently signed up with them too - was surprised to see you don't need to list any specific items like bikes etc. as long as they're under £4k! Paid a couple of quid extra & it covers use outside the home too, bonus - nice to see they're as useful when it comes to making a claim!

Good to know!
I took it out based on features and price but you only REALLY know how good your insurance is when you claim. No worries..........None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -
I've just started working at M&S customer services head office, and can confirm that customer service is absolutely brilliant, I've never known such in depth training, I can only sing their praises as an employer too0

In my experiences they're not.Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.
Think how stupid the average person is.......
half of them are even more stupid than you first thought.0 -
glad all turned out well.0
