Bike Alarms?

Had my carerra crossfire 2 stolen from the local station cycle park recently.

I've seen a few alarms online - most seem to attach to a cable lock and sounds if the lock is cut - which to me means I get back to an empty (but noisy) cycle stand... and then there's a motion sensitive type that sits inside the handlebars - which I think means the thief has to explain why their bike is screaming.... anyone on here actually used the evnatech shadow?

Thanks in anticipation

  • So if the bike is moved the alarm goes off, great, just like an annoying car alarm no one cares about, knock the bike and off it goes, if someone rode past me with it going off I would pay scant notice, why inform the police only to look a fool, gone before they arrive, or a cyclist who lost his key.

    Now here is a getaround.

Go to B and Q, Homabease, Focus, buy expanding foam filler, place a small plastic tube in the end of the supplied large tube and attach to can and spray into the electric alarm, 5 seconds later carry off silent bike. After all who would suspect someone kneeling down tieing their shoe laces.

Same for house alarms, so, if you have a house alarm, fit a mesh over it to stop entry of plastic foam tubes.

Oh and you will also find TASER (illegal in the UK) but obtainable from overseas, blows these, as does any high energy output home built with high amps.

And I am not telling you anything a thief does not already know.

More/better locks, insurance or a cheap hack bike sadly.

Thanks Jeremy. I read the LFGSS thread and concluded that disc alarms made your bike 100% theft proof. Glad you put me right.

Have to say, this looks impressive. I currently use a a cable/padlock combo for short trips to the shops or gym (D-lock lives at the office). Also seems to be fairly intelligent with its sensitivity and warnings.

The auction is for 3 by the way!

Notice they don't show where the exit is for the sound, again spray in foam.

I use a padlock anyway, the noise would be an added bonus for those who don't carry foam..
