My mind has been wandering off into the realms of the ridiculous. My Boardman should effectively be upgraded as far as I would want it by the start of spring.

So I began to think about a frame upgrade to swap the bits over to and the On One Whippet seems like a good priced option. Looking at the geometry sizes it doesnt seem to be much more racey than the Boardman frame. A couple of mm longer in the top tube, the rest is almost identical.

Would it be as simple as it seems?[/url]

    Possibly,... or not!

Will all the other parts fit? Headse, fork steerer length, seatpost, front mech, cables and so on.

Always worth checking this first. Plus look at other aspects of geo.
  • Whippet has a presfit bb92 bottom bracket for starters though On One has some good deals on these. Also allow for seatpost, seat clamp and headset as a minimum.

    W B
    Head Angle: 70 70
    HTL: 105 115
    TTL: 602 590
    Seat Ang: 73 73
    STL: 457 457
    CSL: 425 424

The biggest difference is in the top tube which is inevitable but it is only 12mm.

Regarding parts, I dont mind replacing some of the smaller bits to fit. I assume the steerer length with be fine as the spacers on the Boardman make up the 10mm differece in Head Tube Length and the Whippet pictured has Rebas. Front Mech and Seatpost/Clamp would have to be replaced but could recoup some of those costs with the carbon post i have and selling the new X9 mech I have on the way when the time comes.

Headset and BB...perhaps cranks and chain rings...it would be a work in progress.

The main thing would be the geometry and as far as i can see that isnt so different as to be an issue...in my potential ignorance.

Yes, the listed geos are almost identical.

Maybe weigh the bare Baordman frame if it weight reduction you are after? They are pretty light.

Yeah, would like to know the weight of a bare boardman frame actually...without stripping mine.

I doubt the weight reduction would be too great and im big enough to admit that while it is an upgrade im mainly tempted by the stealthy looks but while £400 may be good for carbon its not great for something you dont in fact need..but then thats a wrestle with my own conscience.

But hey...we all like a change and a 'carbon copy' in this context is a lovely change.

    Cheers for the help.
