So after probably the worst six months or so of my working life I was made redundant last Friday.
The good news I've been very lucky and have landed another job which I start on the 6th of December
But it gets better, I have to move for my new job and this place will be my lbs. And I'll have a redundancy cheque heading my way fairly shortly as well.

Things happen for a reason mate.
My wife was made redundant a few years ago from a good IT job.
Thanks to the payoff, we were able to by some nice bits for the house that we would otherwise be saving up for.
Best thing that could have happened at the time.
Enjoy your time off before the new job0 -
Sounds like a lucky break. Good luck with it.0

I wish, gonna be moving in a few weeks, gotta get packing!
Big question is though, do I get a new bike with the redundo' cash or something else?0 -
Good luck with it mate.
Sometimes redundancy is the best thing that can happen to you as it gives you the kick in the backside you need to move on. I got made redundant 5 years ago and it was the best thing to happen to me career-wise
Enjoy spending the redundancy cheque0 -
I got made redundant 3 years ago from a stressfull factory job.
I walked right into a ne wjob selling bikes and doing repairs which is my hobby. To boot I also had a nice fat redundancy cheque with ne wbike written all over it.
Spend it on what ever you want but take time to think about it., be wise.0 -
I've been made redundant 8 times
Never had a bumper payout and still don't miss a single one. Each was a forced move onto something better :P
Glad to hear of others finding the positives........None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -
Have a colleague who used to work in Germany, who was keen to move back home to Sweden, but worried about the job prospects. Suddenly his firm announced they were doing voluntary redundancies, and wanted "volunteers". He figured they wouldn't give it to him since it would cost them a fortune, but put his hand up anyway.
They agreed. Under German law, he got 6 months notice, plus 4 weeks for every year of service, plus any accrued leave.. Since he'd been with them for 14 years, and not taken a lot of holidays, he was paid out 104 weeks salary.
Moved back to Sweden very happy man. THEN, less than 6 weeks later, the very same company (Swedish branch) offered him a job in Stockholm.
They could have simply given him a transfer from Germany and it would have cost them peanuts.. To make things worse (as far as I'm concerned) he nominated the new terms and conditions of his job for salary etc... and they signed up.
Last I heard he spent his redundancy cheque on a Jaguar XKR convertible, although why you would want one in Sweden I don't know!

Nice one, mate.
That is a brilliant bike shop, in a beautiful part of the country. I was brught up there for a while, wish I could live there now... You lucky git!
Good luck with the new job, I hope all is rosey for you...Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -
3 times redundant 2 payouts.
Each time went on to something else so wasn't bad at all.0 -
I did two 300 mile round trips to buy my bike from Epic. Probably a good job I didn't go in there waving a redundancy cheque though!
Commiserations / congratulations as appropriate. Lovely part of the world for cycling. Do your new employers have any more vacancies??0 -
Thanks for all the comments everyone. Now not so sure about getting a new bike, think I might just stick the redundo cash in the bank for a rainy day. Might just buy some bits and bobs, helmet, shoes, Oakleys (of course...) stuff like that. Want to splash out on something but as the payout isn't that big, don't think it such a hot idea ti blow it all on a bike I don't really need.
Sorry, Keef66, don't think there are any more vacancies for a while. It's gonna be a bit of a change moving from a company that employs over 10,000 to one that has less than 10! Looking forward to it though. No more stupid timesheets!
And it's not too far from the Elan Valley, looking forward to biking round here
