Fork upgrade 80mm > 100mm

Well after loving my hardrock standard for a few weeks I think it's about time I start looking to upgrade, as standard the forks are a bit pants tbh,
Standard spec: SR Suntour SF11-XCM-V3-26-DS-MLO, 80mm, 1 piece alloy lower, 30mm Hi-Ten stanchions, mechanical lockout, coil/mcu spring with preload adjust, spring assisted seals
And I'm thinking of upgrading to:

Now my question is will there be any problems with the swap? Surely it shouldn't be too bad as it is only a 20mm difference
Cheers in advance

is it really 20mm? what is the axle to crown heights of the 2 forks?
1" difference changes the head angle by 1 degree and also slackens the seat angle which moves your weight back."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

No problem frame will be fine with that.
You could do with checking the steerer lengths to see if compatable or if you need some more spacers.
Crown race will need to be swapped.
Possibly a SFN fitted.
Is that really that much of an upgrade?
If you're running Vs then you will need bosses with those forks.
I'd look for something from the Tora range tbh.0 -
I honestly wouldn't be able to answer that, I'll have to have a look round for the specs as that website doesn't seem to have that kinda spec.

These are better:

They are 120mm though, so will probably need to be internally shortened0 -
These are worth a look:

but not an air fork..
for airs I would say

you're not going to get much if any upgrade from those forks. for a noticeable difference you're going to have to spend more.
from bike radar's review on the 2010 hardrock they said it should work well with a 100mm fork. but as Nick says double check the axle to crown heights are not massively different.0 -

i looked at these but they dont have lockout like my current forks which i tend to use a lot so didnt bother with them0 -
I think they do its just called something different. Its variable adjust rather than lock-out on or off. I think they may be air adjustable too, not too sure, just going on the RS spec.0

You can get a Reba for the price of that Recon solo air mind.0

My Hardrock steers & rides much better since I replaced the 80mm Suntour with a 100mm Rockshox Tora SL, only a basic coil sprung fork but a big improvement over the Suntours and only £125 from MerlinsTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
