it appears it will be cheaper to by a whole chainset

than 3 individual chainrings! Quick question: is the M410 lined above 9spd compatible?
the M442 (out of stock) specifies this, the M410 does not??
other offerings for 3 9spd chainrings?

i have a 9speed cassete, rear mech and shifters, all deore LX i think
the frame (GT avalance circa 2000) has a square taper BB fitted and the cranks i have will accept 104/68 BCD rings but the logo is faded so dont know what model they are
to complete my build i need a chain and chainrings0 -
The rings should be compatible with your chainset if is a nine speed crankset, but often a little filing of the spider tabs is needed. Shimanos naming with Alivio is bloody confusing lol, best thing to do is try Shimano Tech Docs. My M412 is 9 speed... Also the tech docs have required BB length so it may just bolt straight on.
But definitely makes sense to buy a new chainset to harvest for the rings if it doesn't fit on the BB.0 -
mmmm, tech docs say alvivio/alterus/acera all 7-8 speed
deore is the cheapest 9 speed, should i fork out the extra?
i did save some money elsewhere on the build0 -
Yes!
£57 for Deore inc BB. May require facing which will add a little.
HTII is the way forward - so much stiffer.0 -
arrghh
i only wanted 3 cheap chainrings!!
must keep reminding self: this is a budget build!0 -
Some alivio is nine speed, and some non series stuff with simialr numbers too.
Tsenior, I'll PM you, I may have just the thing...0
