  • i really like mine, got them in black start of summer. They've done 3k miles so far.

Very solid platform, good bearings and easy to clip in. Love em

I've got a pair and can't stand them, wish I'd held out for some speedplays.

They squeak something rotten for weeks, and they're incredibly difficult to clip into.

The Look pedals I had before used to hang down at the back so you always knew what position they were on, but the bearings on these are so crap they move with the pedal so you've no idea which way up they are before you tread on them unless you're looking at them.

The rubber bit on the cleat also always seems to get caught somewhere and the front of the cleat catches in the slit in the metal plate all the time, dreadful design flaw.

They're OK when you're in, but not enough to make up for being left standing at every set of bloody lights while you get clipped in.

Just stop asking everyone else to make the decision for you and buy a pair already!

i use them on several bike and love them!

I've even got a boxed "spare pair" ready for a next bike or for sale!

I do the same with my fizik arione kium saddles!

  • Absolutely no regrets with mine.

    Got mine from:

Price was as good as I could find and service was first rate.
There's no such thing as too old.

I'm also thinking about the same pedals. I bought some Speedplay Zero stainless steel pedals and I cannot get on with them, actually to the point that I'm putting my cheap Shimano spd sl's on my winter bike and flogging the Speedplays to get the Keo Max2 Carbons
  • Ok, thanks everyone. Feel free to comment.

I have bought a pair of these pedals in white and they should arrive soon!

    Thanks,

Slightly off topic but I'm currently using a pair of old delta style look pedals and was thinking of buying a newer pair of Keos.

Is there a big difference in real usage between the Keo classics and the Keo 2 max?

    Thanks

Besides a slightly wider platform, which you may or may not notice, there isn't a lot of real world difference.

I wish there was a 'try before you buy' option on these! I am faced with needing to fork out £36 on new cleats for my Speedplays, which are in turn approaching 3 years old and looking a bit tired.

I like the look of the Kio 2 Max at about £72 on chain reaction cycles, just worried about the switch of pedal systems having found Speedplay such a doddle to use.

Anyone else made the switch back? Any comments on float and these two types of pedal?
  • Thanks for the replies.

Ive got the pedals as a christmas present and got a good deal for £48 brand new from somebody on bike radar!

The Keo Max can be hard to use (especially after Speedplays). It will depend on if you get an older version or a newer one. Many of the older version suffer from tight seals, which mean the pedals don't 'hang' right and clipping in can be a problem.

If you get lucky and get a good pair (or a newer pair after they fixed the problem, then they hang as they should and clipping in is much easier.

I've used a lot of pedals over the years and truthfully find them all similar - just a device to attach you feet to the bike. It mostly comes down to what look you prefer (how they look, not the brand!) - with the exception of Speedplay, which is a much different system than any other.

As for float - there are 3 different cleats available with up to 9 degrees of float. That should be more than enough for anyone.

Thanks Pokerface, all good information. I will look for the Keo 2 Max, with a red cleat option. I have only seen the grey cleats so far with th epedals, are the red an optional additional purchase?
