Tyre pressures

Picked up a boardman comp today and bought some road tyres for it as i will use it to commute on over winter. They are size 26x1.5 but the max rated tyre pressure is 40psi. as i usually ride a road bike at tyre pressure of 110 psi this seems very low . i know the diameter is smaller at 26" but is this a normal pressure for a mtb road tyre ?

110 will probably blow them up, but 40 seems a bit low - are you sure that's not the min pressure?I don't do smileys.

For 26"x1.5" tyres, around 85psi is more like the norm.
What brand of tyres are they? And, if you don't mind my asking, were they quite cheap and also from Halfords?0 -
40psi is plenty enough bloody hell. Some people ride with 30s but obviously in tubeless guise. Even for tonn heavy Apprentice 40Psi was too hard tyre he couldn't pinch flat it on Black trails in CYB ... Cooldad, bad bhoy. Stop trolling your fashion ways. What could have been (Video)
I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though0 -
Umm, he said he bought road tyres ^^0

funny you should say that they where from halfords but not cheap at £20 each what would you recommend , i will take them back . cheers0

Get some Schwalbe City Jets in the same size. Loads of cheap deals on eBay etc.
Very hard wearing tyre with great puncture resistance, provided that you maintain a high pressure.0 -

That said, that girl we saw on the folding bike and slick tyres seemed to have no problems!0 -
I commute with slicks on my MTB and put the knobblies on for the weekend. For my slicks I stick in 60 psi. It makes a big difference having the right pressure. Deffo get a track pump, I think my joe blow was about £20-25. Worth every penny.
If your slicks can't take 60 psi I would be very surprised. You should be fine.0 -
just got some city jets in 1.95 for my bike. Sooo much nicer on the road that my panaracer fire XCs. Bargain at £13 each on CRC too.
the max pressure written on them is 65psi, ran them at 50psi th other day and they were fine.Bikes are OK, I guess... :-)

Well i fitted them today , what a pain , very tight , pinched a tube . Anyway ignored the 40psi max and whacked them up to 80 psi and they did'nt explode so happy days.0
