Anyone ever done this? I have to wait a bit to see a consultant who is then going to send me for another scan and its going to take about 2 months + and I need it done NOW basically.
I cant seem to find any info on paying for it myself to get it done quicker.

I don't think you can pay to have it done on the NHS, you would have to pay to have it done privately (albeit you may well end up with the same surgeon doing the same Op in the same hospital!).
  • Sorry sorry that's what I meant!!!

  • Absolutely no reason why you cannot have the scan done privately. Just let your consultant know so he can bring your appointment forward and take the results to him.

    Happens all the time.

I can't believe it's actually hard to find a private consultant to undertake whatever type of scan you need.

    Google it for goodness sake.

Be aware though, it is not going to be cheap.
  • yea jim i have googled it. the nhs are not very forthcoming with the info. I've found a private clinic in milton keynes now so enquiring for a price now.

And therein lies your problem - it has f**k all to do with the NHS. You want a private hospital.
  • No not really, I was initially told you could pay to have treatment in an NHS hospital so obviously I would look on the NHS information.

My memory is that this was discounted as it would lead to an eventual 3 tier system; full private, top up NHS and NHS. The government were keen that NHS did not become the poor man's service and were not keen to follow a system where those that could, could purchase additional or preferential services.

Nothing stopping you paying for private consultant, might jeapordise any future medication provided by NHS tho regarding outcome of scan?
What makes you certain it needs doing now? if that was the case i imagine you would not have to wait as long.

Depends what type of scan your after but there are loads of places in MK (presumme thats where your looking). If your after something specific sports related there are quite a few good places around or is it more general in which case try someone like BUPA/Simply health as they have deals with NHS doctors and fully private ones too.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.
