I'm no great shakes on a bike TBH.

But I did a skills day last weekend and managed a 5' stepped drop which, a week ago, i'd have laughed if anyone actually suggested I'd be able to ride it.

But thanks to Mr Ed Oxley at Great Rock I'm now a 'Riding God'.

Well not really. But damn I feel so much more confident on a bike now I just can't stop thinking about blasting some local singletrack this weekend.

So thanks Ed... you made a slighty lardy old geezer feel like a champion, if only for a day.

Highly recommended!!

  • Well done Mac Man

Doing things that you don't really do or learning something new is what riding is all about for me.

I love riding and if I only get to go out at the weekend I can't wait until the next ride!

A bit of confidence never hurt anybody and I think you actively need it to get better at mountain biking.

Alwasy try something new and really assess those things are just out of your comfort zone. Things is - it is nearly ALWAYS easier than you thought it would be!

Saying that, over confidence and clear aboandonment of caution is madness also - so it swings and roundabouts!

That'd be the plan. Quick blast up Stoodley Pike and then down to Hebden for tea and cake. Heaven.

  • Do you have a link for whoever gave you the coaching?

I'm after a coaching session / day of some kind just to learn a bit more, and improve my riding technique. I'm the same as you though, once I've finished a ride and I'm stuck inside I just want to go for a blast down the trails!

The chap I went with is Ed at http://www.great-rock.co.uk

But maybe too far from you.

However, there's a guy on the forums goes by the username of 'Jedi' that many rate highly. I believe he's based more down your way.

Unless, of course, you fancy a trip to Sunny Yorkshire. Some great riding up here :-)

Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"
  • Well to answer your question - its cause your normal, all those others who take a look out of the window and think "oh its a bit wet and windy out there" are the weird ones.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.
