Hello All,

Hoping for a bit of help from some of the regulars: For four days next week I have to cycle to Whitehall from Surbiton, circa 7.30, 8am. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best route?

Many thanks!

I don't have a full answer but there is a cycle lane on the A3 - it is not great in places though.

I used to live in Surbiton - still got a big soft spot for that leafy nirvana.

West along Embankement and onto New Kings Road, over Putney Birdge, down Lower Richmond Road, Queen's Ride and Priory Road to the Roehampton Gate and go though Richmond Park to Kingston Gate.

In Kingston the easiest way is to go down Kings Road and Lower Kings Road, onto Skerne Road and over the cycle crossings into the bus station (Wood Street). Turn left out of there and follow to the A307 Portsmouth Road or the A240 Surbiton Road, depending where you want to end up.

    /\ what Asprilla said.

What are you riding, HB? I come in from Kingston around the same time.

Oops, you should read my directions backwards.

I didn think it odd that you would be going from Whitehall to Surbiton as a morning commute.....

  • Thanks Asprilla - Wasn't sure if RP or the A3 was the best way to do it. Will be nice to go through the park of a morning - Make a pleasant change to have some fresh air on the commute!

Boring old Hybrid through the Cycle 2 Work scheme. Though I have claimed the scalps of a fair few roadies who should frankly be ashamed of themselves 8) Definitely looking to upgrade once I get the winter out of the way. Give me a wave if you see me and go easy

Must admit that I've never been up the A3; for some reason it's doesn't appeal......

However, you'll get a load of folks going the route I've given you each morning so the opportunity to scalp is pretty high.

If you don't like hills you could go via Richmond on the A307, then out on the A305 to the A205, up to Putney bridge via queens ride, bout a mile and a half longer, but all flat :D
