...on how i did on a training run tonight based on my speedo readings?

routes mixed bag, flats 4 or 5 climbs one if which is quite dragged out, and there was around 9 of us all taking turns up front. slight headwinds on sections. (any more info needed?)

Time - 1hr 46mins

DST - 34.6miles

AVG - 19.5mph

MX - 31mph

is that considered decent for a training run?

i need to get a HRM to get more stats so hopeully some of you guys on here can help me out a bit?

    Are you showing off? :)
I'd love to have an ave speed of 19.5! I'm still stuck around 16.5/17.
If there were 9 of you out are you in a club?
You must have an idea ifvthis was a good run based on previous?
Or do you mean compared to others on here?
  • It's only the 2nd time I've been with them so I'm not sure if they are taking it easier cos I'm there or if that is a normal kinda speed, it was probably around my max effort at present so if they get any faster I'll die quicker...

This time of year I'd say that was a touch on the quick side or certainly higher than average for club runs right now
A lot of people are taking it fairly easy this time of year and getting some base miles in coupled with maybe one threshold session a week
After Xmas expect those runs to be gradually edging up in speed

It's impossible to say. Seriously! Depends on the hills/route, your fitness, how many turns on the front, was the speed steady or did the pace drop off then suddenly accelerate? etc etc etc...

Only you can answer that. How did you feel afterwards?
  • Very steady pace only a 3/4mile sprint at very end which killed me

I felt ok, but worked...I couldn't have gone much further at that speed tbh
I was at the front 3 times totalling 10min tops I'd say

After each time at front I was hurting.

Well if its hurting then you were going fast enough - speeds sounds pretty good but couldn't say if they were slowing down as you were there.

Just go with what feels right, if you goal is to train hard go fast and hopefully get quicker then it sounds like your doing the right thing to me. If you in a fast group of riders who can go quicker than you it will push you more and therefore you should gain more in terms of experience and strength/speed.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.
