I've bought an Ultrafire WF-502B and was told by a friend that I need to put heatsink compound around the heatsink on the flashlight for better heat dissipation, as these get hot when in use.

Does any one know if this is true and what part needs the compound.

cheers.

What type of emitter is it ? prob on worth doing if its a 900lm P7, although i was told not to bother as it makes it to messy if you take it apart, a piece of foil around the outer reflector again i was told on here some where, but i'd of thought that would act as a insulator for the heat instead.
  • This is the XPE-WC-R2 5 mode version, 280 lumens flash light.
    It's a CREE type emitter.
I can't seem to see how this is done as the emitter looks like one unit.

If you could advise how this is done, as the torch does get a little warm, and I want to make it last as long as possible, so if curing the heat dissipation helps, it should last for ages.

No need, as the torch is getting warm it means the drop in is transferring heat well, its meant to be all seperate parts thats the idea of a drop in, the module and reflector act as the heatsink. , which on mine (exactly the same) fit perfectly and transfer plenty of heat, yours is the 1200mAH driven one too so its overdriven but doesn't cause any problems.

FYI, i drilled out the hole in the bottom of the reflector on mine as the LEd was slightly off centre so some light was being lost, made it a bit floodier too as i found mine a bit tight, even for head mounting duties.
  • Thanks for the advice Foggy, I also use mine helmet mounted, so i'll drill it out a little...

    Cheers :D
