Moving flat(s) in London

I'm moving flats soon.
Me and my girlfriend currently live in separate flats not far from each other, but in December we are moving-in together in a new flat on the other side of London.
I was wondering what you guys (since some will have experience) would think the most cost effective way to move would be?
We have enough stuff combined to fill 1 and 3/4 cars worth, but the only furniture we're moving is a little fold-out table I have.
D'ya think a man with a van would be worth it? Or is there something cheaper - say just hiring a van for a day?
Any ideas?

I'm a big fan of Streetcar, but I got a good deal on their initial membership costs through MyCityDeal / GroupOn - not sure what they usually charge to set up now, or indeed if you're already a member?
Moved my girlfriend's bits from hers to mine in one of their VW Golf's, and then a while later I moved all of our stuff from Shepherds Bush to Clapham using one of their vans (VW Transporter).
Can book by the hour, and extend if need be. Have also used it a couple of times to get pieces from IKEA - it's a good service for those sort of trips, not so good if there's a lot of 'dead time' in the middle of the day though I'd say.0 -

Just make sure you take control of the contract signing/reading. You don't want a repeat of the unholy mess she landed herself in the last time.
Did you ever get a reduction in rent, or a cleaner?0 -
What part of London are you? I used company in Wandsworth few times. Called Mikes Van Hire possibly??? Very Cheap. £28 for the day. Big transits, beat to sh!t but do the job. There is never redemption, any fool can regret yesterday...

Haha, no, but the landlord persuaded the other tennants to informally arrange a cleaner once a month, which she just isn't paying for and the Landlord seems to be happy about it so...
The contract is much better - about 3 times as thick and seems to cover every eventuality I can think of.

It's from Canada Water (*groan*) to Fulham. £28 for the day sounds pretty good!0 -
MTFU and use a BroxI've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

I've used man-with-a-van and also hired van's myself in the past. Guess the turning point for me was the weight. When it was loads of boxes but able to carry them myself then I went with the van. When if was a mixture of boxes but awkward to handle items then it was man with a van.Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0

Just the "best" bits I hope. :P0 -
Just hire a van Rick. You'll have more room, so packing is easier and you won't have to cram stuff in, potentially damaging it, and you'll be able to get it all done in one run. Van hire for a day isn't particularly expensive and as much as we all hate 'white van man', vans are great fun to driveScience adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.
