I managed to smack my rear mech on a rock while riding at the weekend, bending the hanger. I've bent it back into place by hand so i can still ride the bike, but a new one is definately in order.

Trouble is that some lunchtime googling hasnt turned anything up, i've emailed the retailer i got the bike off and the distributer (madison) but i was wondering if anyone else has any ideas on where to get saracen mech hangers???

Nothing has turned up as a match for it though- im assuming that it has to be exactly the same??

Yes it has to be the same, and from the picture your looking at on a web site may look the same but once it's in your hand it'll probably be 50% bigger.

They are quite individual to every type of frame made.

Go to Madisons website they have the hangers on there, they have for my Meta 5.5.

  • nothing on their website so i gave them a call. They suggested i talk to a retailer, who when i rang them suggested i bring it in so they could see if they had something similar...

no idea why this is so damned hard. Going to wander round to the Evans next to the office at lunch to see if they can help.

I had the same problem when I got my Zen frame second hand off e-bay. Went through all the sites and emailed the retailer, took a while after that to realise that steel framed bikes don't have a replacable mech hanger, it's part of the frame!!! How stupid did I feel!

OP - I'm not suggesting this is your problem as I'm aware not all the Zen frames were steel!

If you really end up at a dead end maybe try asking any engineering workshops near you to make one for you. Im sure I've read stories on here where someone's got mech hangers made up.

When I got my daughter a Budget CBR to rebuild it came with no mech hanger, I just bought one far to big at the mounting (cheap) and and cut and filed it to fit, its now a better fit than most OE hangers now.

Search Amazon.co.uk fotr mech hangers there are lots on there with good photo's, letter ID and some model details and they are reasonably priced, I think that the latest Saracen's are Merida frames so they will be common with other makes.
