Afternoon all

Our lbs has a well-used Cotic Soul in stock. It is a godawful faded mustard colour but otherwise it looks OK; Fox 32 Talas, SLX shifters/cranks, XTR rear mech, Juicy 7s, Mavic wheels c/w Maxxis Ardents & Race Face finishing kit. There are no crappy parts but it appears to have 'seen some action' as they say.

Does £850 seem reasonable? New frames are £470 :?

TIA

  • Depends on the condition. What does 'well used' mean. £850 for a second hand bike seems a lot. Offer then £425, then split the difference.

By well-used I mean it had its fair share of scratches, the grips were toast, it had spent a fair amount of time upside-down on the bars and it looked as though it had been cleaned with a Brillo pad. Mostly cosmetic stuff though, the parts that mattered where in good nick.

    £650 you say?
  • I think you take for granted that you'll need to buy new grips, chain and cassette, not a problem.

What would be a problem would be forks. I'd want to go over the stanchions with a fine tooth comb, and even if good send them off for a service instantly.
  • Even though a new Soul retails at £470, this one is not only used ( a lot) its not in good condition, the frame maybe worth £100. The forks maybe another £100. After reconsiddering, I'd offer £500 at the most.

have you followed the used prices of Soul frames And Fox forks on ebay??
£100 for a soul frame! your having a laugh!! £200 yes! same for the fox forks!
the Soul is an Awesome bike to ride, and cosmetically can be rectified very simply!

here's one on ebay at the mo, decent spec wise,

(if its that colour then its more than likely the 'Builders Tea' colour)

also bear in mind there are essentially 3 versions, ist version was the Mk1 if you like, cable guides on the top of the top tube iirc, Mk2 guides on the underneath opf the top tube, and the current mk3 is much like the mk2 but with a replaceable mech hanger, what ever model you get (most likely the mk2) it'll be a cracking bike to ride,

price wise, am sure the lbs are open to resonable offers! £700-750??

Are you saying second hand of that exact model or of second hand in general. If the bike was originally worth 6k would 875 still be alot for second hand?

What do you mean by "not in good condition"? Dents? Mega chainsuck? If it's in the metal that's a consideration, if it's in the paint then it's not that big a deal. Though Souls are very well finished so it does take a bit of beating to mark them up badly.

Obviuosly not a £6000 bike! New top quality steel hardtails are about £1500, a well used second hand one is not woth over half that.
