Specialized Stumpjumper FSR rear-triangle replacement

Howdy.
I stripped my 09 Stumpjumper FSR down yesterday to check the pivot bearings (which are all shot as it turns out) only to find a small crack in part of the chain stay section, around a hole where the front gear cable passes through.
Probably caused by the fact that the bearings in the main pivot were completly siezed.
I was just wondering if anyone had replaced this on their own bike and what their experience was like dealing with Specialized for this type of thing ? (also what it's likely to cost would be useful).
I've had the bike for about 15 months now so I dont think Specialized will replace it for free

You might be pleasantly surprised, they may still see it as a warranty item.

Took the broken chainstay to the shop yesterday and today they rang me saying that they will replace it, but can only replace it with one thats painted black (the broken one is white).
So my white frame with white bars, grips, seat etc is going to be stuck with a black chainstay.
Mocked one up in photoshop to see how it will look, and it looks crap.
Phoned em up directly to speak to them about it and they fobbed me off saying it's either that or nothing.
I had been saving to buy a Demo 8 but I think I'll be going for some other brand after this.Canyon Spectral AL 9.0 EX

Sounds fairly standard, don*t know if the new ones come with white triangles, but if they don't and black is all they have in stock, I wouldn't be going to the extreme of saying looking at other brands just because of that.0 -
The 2010 and 2011 models are very different in frame design so I'm pretty sure they have to replace it with a chainstay that was designed for some variation of the 2009 model Stumpjumper.
In the 2009 models the Elite was white and the Comp was black but the frames are effectively identical other than the colour so that's not an issue at all.
The problem is that the bike is going to look silly (for lack of a better word); like one of those chavy cars you see knocking about where the body is all one colour apart from one panel which is some random colour and obviously picked up from a scrap yard.
And at some point I'm going to want to sell the bike and upgrade to something newer and this will make it harder to sell on and probably reduce it's value.
So I either have to put up with it looking silly and take a hit if/when I want to sell it; or I shell out and have it painted before I fit it back to the bike (getting hold of decals could be a problem and it mean the bike is out of action for even longer).
It's just all a pain in the arse and doesn't make me feel great about buying a Specialized again; considering that the frame didn't get damaged due to anything I had done, it's broken in an area which is poorly designed (a hole drilled right next to a major stress point).
I'm sure I'm over-reacting a bit, I fully admit it; they are at least willing to replace the damaged part...
....but I just can't see it as acceptable on a bike thats been specced up with nice colour matched components, to then stick on some random colour and ruin the whole look.Canyon Spectral AL 9.0 EX

Count your blessings.
I pranged my rear seatstays at Laggan and it cost me £90 for a replacement  They only had black spares for me also ,which actually looks better than the grey one it replaced on my 2008 model.0 -

As you say the new designs are completely different, and your getting a bike which was in production over 2 years ago having parts replaced. While it may not be exactly what you want, I think it's a bit daft to say that speialized is doing something terrible, when the bike is a bit older and their still honoring it.
Specialized has amazing service, and just because you can't get the exact part you want 2 years after the bike was produced is unacceptable to slay them for that.0 -
You are very lucky it is being done for free, or done at all. Many manufacturers would not do this as a warranty issue over a year after the bike is bought, and some may not even carry spares for older models. I think Specialized are being quite good here as a manufacturer.0

Get it powdercoated? £30 or so. Of course, you have to pay for it, which sucks, I know, but the bike will look right.0
